Artist's Comments

This is going to be :iconmyoozik: 's commissioned wedding cake statue based off of my "Kiss Me You Fool" picture. So far I'm having a bunch of fun so with this one as I've never turned one of my pictures into a 3-D model before. It's so cool watching it come to life!

Anyway, the male wolf is nearing completion, at least as far as the sculpting part. And that funny looking wad of aluminum will shape up to be his mate. I always start my sculptures with a wire frame and aluminum foil over top to fill out the body a bit. They do look so much better after adding clay though! :D

Oh! Adding tinfoil never occurred to me xD;
I've tried using a wire armature before, but quickly got tired of layering on layers of clay. (in fact it's still sitting on the table in my art room, all anorexic-looking.) I'll have to try adding tinfoil next time =D

Oh yes, the tin foil really does help a lot. It gives the clay a bit of something to "grip" while you're sticking it onto the frame.

wow, he's very beautiful! I like looking at people's clay models, since I'm horrible with clay myself. I can't wait to see it when it's all done!

:iconakireru:
Not to mention you conserve a lot more clay =D

:iconshadowlupen:
so when you use the aluminum as a base do you just leave it on when you bake the clay? or do you somehow take it out 0o

It stays in there. The male wolf in the picture looks exactly like the female beneath the clay, all wire and aluminum.

:iconwildspiritwolf:
Yuss, somewhat. While adding the clay over the aluminum, the foil tends to get mashed down quite a bit as I'm busily making sure the clay will hold. But yes, it does help conserve a bit. :)
