Tribal Killer Whale Tattoo by WildSpiritWolf Tribal Killer Whale Tattoo by WildSpiritWolf
This is :iconwingzero992: 's completed commission of a tribal orca.

:bulletred: I do apologize for the obnoxious watermarks but they have been put in place to help cut down on the prolific theft of my artwork as well as to protect the commissioned art that was designed for my clients' use. It is an intensely frustrating thing seeing a design you worked so hard to create being reposted or even sold elsewhere without your knowledge or consent and that does not even begin to cover how my clients feel about it. And that is why the watermarks exist and are going to remain. Any snarky comments regarding them will be marked as spam. :bulletred:

Please do not copy, trace, alter, or redistribute this anywhere in any way, shape, or form!

This design was created specifically for the commissioner's use only. If you would like a design custom created for you, drop me a note or see my FAQ journal entry here: [link] if you need more info.

Lineart: Micron Pen Size 03
Color: Copic Markers

Thank you for asking.

The designs in my gallery are solely for the use of my customers who originally paid to have me custom design them and they are not for public use or any kind of alteration other than myself or my clients. However, if you're interested in placing an order for a similar custom design of your own, I'd be happy to work with you on it.

Or, if you would like to purchase one of my pre-made designs that are available for license of $15 USD each, please click here: wildspiritwolf.deviantart.com/…

No need to put your orca down. Everybody's got to start somewhere. :) Oh, people would have a heyday if they could see the old orcas I used to draw when I was 9. :XD:

If someone wanted a tribal tattoo commision from you but wanted to get it as an actual tattoo on them would they be allowed?

If they're the ones that commissioned the design from me, yes, they would have permission to use it as a personal tattoo design for themselves.

Maybe if you put the watermarks into the tattoo using photoshop (obviously just for dA) then you could protect the work without the watermarks obscuring so much of it.
Just a suggestion.

The watermarks are there for a reason, this belongs solely to the person who commission Wild and probably has a very personal meaning to them so please do not get this tattooed. You can, however, commission her for something similar.

and im also pretty sure the artist has got this, and doesnt need you "helping" by being a vigilate and helping her reply to all her commenters. grow up. learn to take a joke. learn to draw. then maybe you will be able to tell people off on your own work. okay? atta girl

*rolls her eyes* I may not be perfect but I know how to draw just fine, honey and I wasnt "telling you off".. I was attempting to inform you because Wild gets plenty of people who dont know any better and theft is a real problem for Wild. Any "jokes" about it are not even slightly amusing for her or any of her friends. They're taken seriously because of how much a problem it is.

Wild knows I answer *some* of her comments, there are a few of us that do this for her. She has told us several times that she appreciates the help.

not to be rude, Im definitely not for copyists or plagiarizing but frankly if you put your images out there… anywhere, via online or on canvas human or otherwise, people will see them and possibly use them for their own gain. They may do so directly through copying or by remembering ideas and creating something similar. Almost every idea has been thought of once before and may resemble another. Water marks are very easy to get around. If you want your images to stay completely yours hide them away and don't show them otherwise they are added to the giant pool of ideas and designs that people will use and reuse in society and communities all over. So hide it away or create something that is too hard or too technical for anyone to re-create

Not intended to offend but.
1. Why should people not be capable of enjoying her artwork because of thieves?
2. This is how she makes a living, how do you propose she gets money out of it if she hides everything away?

I ordered from her in September and am waiting patiently for my piece which I paid a lot for and is due in December. Now, I would not have considered buying from her without good recent examples of work and would not have found her without DA. So she reserves the right to plaster her work with watermarks and become irritated if they are stolen. Why? She needs to do this to get business, people pay good money and she spends her time and effort making them, not for people to steal them. I understand your point, but she can't make a living otherwise lol

no offence taken and I do understand those points too but perhaps there are safer channels to consider as well?
I am in art school right now and one of the things we are learning is to choose ways to show your art with less risk.

However there are always thieves that can't be stopped. A gallery owner in calgary was just sacked and facing trial because she reviewed young artists and then created artwork extremely similar to the work she just exhibited.

I'm not annoyed by the watermarks at all, do what you think you must, but as artists its something you continually have to contend with if you create something thats copiable someone will always copy.

Actually, there are probably just as many pieces Wild DOESNT post as the ones she does. All a person has to do is ask her not to post it and she's more than happy to do so. I know this because I commissioned her to remake an older design that was stolen, altered and tattooed by some obnoxious little twat (pardon my language - this happened a few years ago and it still upsets me) because she thought it was "cool". I asked Wild not to post the new one and she had not problems doing so.

Yes, sadly there are always going to be those twerps who cannot be stopped but often times other people are on the look out for theft for Wild because they know its such an issue for her and are quick to send her a note about it so she can deal with it and the watermarks do help quite a bit. Wild has mentioned on more than one occassion that she gets drastically less reports on the pieces with the more obvious watermarks verses the ones with the weaker or no watermarks at all.

But unfortunately, as it stands right now... dA is the best means she has for keeping her commission work going cause she's so well known here - sad as that is considering how horrible this site tends to be. This gallery is her working portfolio and while she has considered her own site or relocating to another art site thats better run and handles theft better, she's kinda basically worried about losing out on possible future commissions.

Though... if you do have any other tips from your class, I really wanna encourage you to send them to her in a note. Any little thing would help and I'm pretty sure she would appreciate it!

So wonderful to see a decent tribal killer whale like this! I absolutely love it! And I completely understand why you'd want to put watermarks on it (especially since all of the other tribal orca tattoos are nothing compared to this)! Beautiful work!!! I especially love the eye spot!

This is amazing! Your art has such a crisp style to it, no wonder people want to claim it for their own or sell it. It's unfortunate about all the dishonest people that ruin it for the rest.

Unfortunately there isnt really much Wild can do at that point, which is part of why she watermarks the crap out of her images... to reduce the chances of that happening. Though it is entirely possible that she could work something out with that person if she can contact them and they're not complete douches about it. Some people are.

Its also a safe bet to assume that any image posted here in her gallery has a very deep, personal meaning to the person who paid a pretty good sized chunk of change for her to draw it. Its a real crappy feeling to have someone just take that design and use it because they thought it was "cool" - and I'm speaking from personal experience here.

I know what you mean, if I find that anyone else has used my design for a tattoo I be very very upset. Mostly do to they have no idea what it means or the meaning of where I got it from, what I had to go threw to just make the money to have the design made, or even what I went threw just so I could get the tattoo. It has a very personal meaning and kind of a slap in the face if someone just uses it because it's cool. It is an insult to the design and myself.
