Fate Of The Gods Ragnarok Knotwork Design by WildSpiritWolf Fate Of The Gods Ragnarok Knotwork Design by WildSpiritWolf
This is :icondeepershade1989: 's completed commission of a design depicting the Nordic tale of the Ragnarok where Hat and Skoll devour the sun and moon and Fenris kills and consumes Odin.

:bulletred: I do apologize for the obnoxious watermarks but they have been put in place to help cut down on the prolific theft of my artwork as well as to protect the commissioned art that was designed for my clients' use. It is an intensely frustrating thing seeing a design you worked so hard to create being reposted or even sold elsewhere without your knowledge or consent and that does not even begin to cover how my clients feel about it. And that is why the watermarks exist and are going to remain. Any snarky comments regarding them will be marked as spam. :bulletred:

Please do not copy, trace, alter, or redistribute this anywhere in any way, shape, or form!

This design was created specifically for the commissioner's use only. If you would like a design custom created for you, drop me a note or see my FAQ journal entry here: [link] if you need more info.

Lineart: Micron Pen Size 03
Color: Copic Markers

Both Skoll and Hati have the same pose, so I'm wondering did you use a type of tool/skill to draw the exact same pose for both of them only reversed? or is this just digital? either way this is a lovely drawing

In my designs where something is repeated or reversed, I draw that part once then transfer (trace) it onto a separate sheet of paper so I can transfer it back to the original sheet of paper as a double of the original. Hope that helps!

Really awesome work, you must have plenty of patience to do all the knotwork, that and a steady hand. I know another deviantartiest (a photographer) who uses watermarks all over her work because of theft of her work. I'm glad that the watermarks cut down on the theft of your work.

Thank you for asking. You may print it out for use on your binder as long as you leave all my watermarks intact.

You've captured the legend so beautifully with this design! Norse mythology is awesome, and art that tells the stories and looks authentic is even better. :)

Beautifully done! I like how you make Odin in spirit as a Raven and the Fenris Wolf holding him down with one paw. Excellent imagery!

do watermarks like this really keep people from using tattoo designs? ... just curious ...
i mean they barely cover up anything and it's not like tattoo artists can't use their imagination to fill in the spots if you can't do it yourself ...

Yes, they do help a lot. A lot of the older pieces I posted in the past that had smaller, more vague watermarks were subject to heavy theft. With these newer, more "in your face" watermarks, it's very obvious that they aren't freebie design up for grabs.

Of course, there are still those out there with no respect for the designs, the artist behind them, or the client that paid to have them made and will steal and use them anyway. But my current watermarks do help cut down a lot of the theft.

interesting... how do you know that less people will use them with a heavier watermark tho? I mean I'm sure if people take your designs, they don't immediately message you or even post pics of the finished tattoo online. And even then, how would you find them?

There are a great many people who recognize my artwork and alert me to illegal/unauthorized repostings and alterations of it when they find it. Most of the time, the theft occurs on the internet but my artwork has also shown up on t-shirts, on sandals at a foreign Wal-Mart, car decals, jewelry, in a package of temporary tattoos, in tattoo books, as laser-cut metal wall art, and that's not even all of it. This has not been theft that I've come across myself; all of it was sent to me by well-meaning people who wanted to let me know what was going on with my art.

The majority of the designs stolen and used in these cases have been older pieces of mine that weren't initially posted online covered with the numerous watermarks that I use today. The number of cases where my more recent, well watermarked designs show up in places where they shouldn't is much, much smaller than the ones that were originally posted with sub-par watermarking. To this day, I regret not being more aggressive with my watermarks from the beginning. It would have saved me a lot of time and frustration.

Back then, it would have been difficult for me to fathom just how popular my designs would be and how much of an issue art theft would become for me but hindsight is 20/20, you know?

I have a question for you, are you doing touch ups on computer with your drawings (excluding the watermark) ? Because your color really looks like if you have done it on a logicial !

(Sorry for my bad english ^^)

I brighten and darken my designs in Photoshop. With my color designs, I use Photoshop to bring the scan of the design as close as possible to what the original piece looks like. :)
